Comment guidelines
Comments are for neighbors to add what they know, ask questions and disagree respectfully about local issues. You need a free account to comment or reply. You don't need one to read anything on this site.
How it works
- Create a free account with your email address. We send you a sign-in link, with no password to remember.
- Your name, as you entered it on your account, appears next to your comments. Please use your real name.
- You can reply to other comments, and delete your own. Anyone can like a story, with or without an account.
- Comments are plain text. Links aren't clickable, and a comment can hold only a couple of them.
The rules
- Stay on the topic of the story.
- Be civil. Disagree with ideas, not people. No name-calling, threats or harassment.
- No hate speech or slurs about anyone's race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability or national origin.
- Don't post personal information about anyone: addresses, phone numbers, workplaces or photos of private people.
- Don't accuse a named person of a crime. If you know something we should report, send us a tip.
- No spam, ads or links to sell things.
- Don't pretend to be someone else.
Moderation
The editor reads comments and hides any that break these rules. Repeat or serious violations can lose commenting privileges. We don't edit comments. We may close comments on a story, such as one about a death or a crime involving minors.
Comments are the opinions of the people who write them, not of East Metro Ledger.
Corrections
If a comment points out an error in our story, we check it. You can also report errors directly; see our Corrections policy.
